"The brainchild of Pot & Kettle Ltd, aka Catherine Hardy and Jacqueline Fennessy of the hugely successful Left Bank on Gibson Street.... Seeking to inhabit that strange jinxedy lower end of Byres Road, where places tend to come and go frequently, the two owners have done their homework and, backed up with years of solid ground-up experience in the industry, have come up with a new addition that looks like it will stay the distance. The Two Figs will exhibit the same cool, contemporary design values as Left Bank, with specially commissioned wallpaper (fig-patterned, naturally) from English designer Sam Pickard. Wood, leather, concrete and a polished screed floor will channel an industrial vibe, and the place, spread over numbers 5 and 9 Byres Road, will be divided into two rooms, separated by the stone close at number 7. Fixed booth seating with table service will be available, offering a seasonal specials menu daily and an a la carte menu of home-made, round-the-world treats similar to that of Left Bank, but a little cheaper. The Two Figs will have its own chef, but the whole operation will be overseen by Left Bank head chef Liz McGougan. And if the warmth and affection in which Left Bank is held is anything to go by, The Two Figs will soon banish that tumbleweed feeling at the bottom of Byres Road." The List Magazine
